About Bastrop Dance Collective

Bastrop is a community full of creativity. From local artists and musicians to makers and entrepreneurs, it's a place where people value learning, creating, and connecting. We wanted to be part of that story by creating more opportunities for adults to experience dance.

As teachers, we've seen firsthand how meaningful dance can be. It builds confidence, encourages creativity, challenges both the body and the mind, and reminds us that learning doesn't have to stop when we're kids.

Bastrop Dance Collective was created to offer thoughtful, affordable dance classes for adults by professional dancers in a supportive environment. Whether you're stepping into a studio for the first time or returning after years away, our hope is that you'll find a place to move, grow, and enjoy the art of dance.

Meet the teachers

Katie Mae Hebert

A native of Austin, Texas, Katie Mae has dedicated her life to the art of dance, immersing herself in modern dance and a variety of movement traditions for more than two decades.

Throughout her career, Katie Mae has performed with several acclaimed dance companies, including Chaddick Dance Theater, Afrique Gninze, and Blue Lapis Light. Her passion for dance has taken her around the world, where she has expanded her artistic perspective by studying and experiencing diverse movement practices throughout Asia, Europe, and Africa. Her training includes West African dance, Balinese dance, and interpreting dance for the blind.

Katie Mae believes dance is more than an art form—it is a lifeline. "Without dance, I would be lost," she says. For her, dance is a gift that fosters meaningful connections with both herself and others.

Katie Mae encourages her fellow dancers to listen to their bodies, trust their inner voices, and cultivate clarity, confidence, and authentic expression in class, on stage, and in everyday life.
